It's the norm to unwind after a stint on the job, so having a feed can be one potential solution. That said, for several months now it's been tradition for the co-workers and I to hit the Coach and Horses pub once a term to forget about the chlorine we're accustomed to.

This well known pub on the Maroondah Highway in Ringwood is a bit of a pain to get to (do a loop via the Ringwood Bypass if coming from the Croydon area) but the set up should appeal to many.

What you'll find is a quiet place that can certainly gain its voice at the right time. The afternoon is when I've seen it the most and the lunch rush isn't something to dread; there'll be adequate service regardless of when you turn up, but a reservation ahead of time may prove beneficial.

The staff are good company, happy to share a joke with you regardless of its content. Families are encouraged to make the trip since there's a playroom where parents can stash the kids. The Coach and Horses is also ideal for birthdays and when you need to kill time between a wedding ceremony and reception.

Now we're onto the food. I've not much experience reviewing food so this should be an experience for everyone. The kitchen pulls out good quality with the parmas looking to resemble the wing of a pteradactyl, so to speak. The chips and wedges are also known for being pinched by the people who didn't order them; be sure to try the aioli also.

I for one am a fan of the Moroccan chicken burger; it can be a handful to eat so there's no shame in using the knife that comes with it. The flavours mix well, especially the avocado, which leaves one feeling satisfied after the final bite. There are plenty of options on the menu but I'm one for north Africa so I'll try anything that comes my way.

And then there was dessert. Yes, I've an infamous sweet tooth so I've tried a few things on offer at the C&H, but it's the caramel and macadamia cheesecake that is my pick. There's nothing too rich about it and you're sure to take your time. Allow this to happen if you're a true lover of the sweet.

The Coach and Horses is great for an everyday meal so be sure to keep your eyes open should you be on the highway. There's nothing in your face when you arrive and leave, but if it's your poison, be sure to bring your own Tia Maria.
