The coffee culture in Perth is growing, with people increasingly appreciating a cup made with quality beans and brewed with finesse - the hallmarks of the CNR cafe at the Northbridge Piazza . This chic little cafe is on the corner of James and Lake Street, directly under the big screen. This means that whilst you enjoy a meal or one of the best brews in town, you can connect to the free 4G Vivid Wireless wifi internet connection.

Since opening, the CNR cafe has rapidly become one of Perth's most popular meeting places, attracting a broad range of clients from students to city workers, drawn by one of the best brews in Perth - uniquely cold brewed coffee. A cold brew preserves the delicate compounds whilst eliminating bitter oils and acids that would otherwise be extracted at high temperatures. An informative working model on the counter explains the process and lets customers see it working.

Although CNR alternates between various brewing methods, cold brewed coffee is full-bodied, creamy and delicate all at the same time. Upon visiting the CNR cafe, they were offering a choice of beans from El Salvador and Buenos Aries, in cups to enjoy on the premises or to take away. The cafe varies its coffee offering, introducing its customers to both blended and single origin varieties.

Food also varies, with the menu based around quality cafe-style offerings - Shepherd's Pie, soup, coddled eggs with spinach and mushrooms on Turkish bread, and similar hearty offerings in winter, with lighter fare in summer.

Occasional specials offer exceptional value, like the "hot dog" with coffee for just $2.50 extra - actually two quality sausages in a fresh bread roll with Dijon mustard and sprouts.

Fresh muffins, cheesecakes and pastries are also available - the almond croissants are a particular favourite. The dinner menu varies, but runs to items like Wagyu carpaccio, eggplant roll filled with ricotta, crispy skin salmon and duck on roasted sweet potato, spinach and prosciutto.

The decor is functional with contemporary elements and polished concrete floors. Plastic-topped tables and chairs are used indoors and out, and the addition of long tables and benches in stainless steel and teak gives the outdoor area a casual style. Comfortable ottomans are scattered around. An eye-catching array of photographs adorn one wall, while the others are glassed, allowing a view across the piazza of people web surfing, watching what's on offer on the big screen, or just stretched out on the grass relaxing and catching the sun - a change from the often sterile atmosphere of many cafes.

So come and meet some friends for a coffee, have a meal, or even come alone and chat to friends online - while enjoying the delicious coffee and snacks on offer at CNR. Mains range between $15-$25, snacks will set you back between $4-$6 and coffees $3-$5 on average.

Breakfast and lunch is offered seven days a week and the cafe is open for dinner Thursday to Saturday, with a BYO licence.
