No matter where you are staying, it's worth jumping in a taxi to have lunch or dinner at The Cliff. It was the best meal we had on the island, and the food and ambiance get top marks.

The restaurant has roughly 200 degree views of the Andaman Sea and Pantai Cenang. It's located on the very tip of the beach, so you get the full view of the expansive sand and horizon.

Given we had spent the week eating, we opted only for a main, which was lamentable, as the menu has some fantastic Malay fusion, and a large variety of seafood on offer. I had the Udang Pulau Rebak (Wok- fried Prawn, Green Pepper Corn, Spring Onion, Ginger & Capsicum).

The right mix of peppery yet creamy sauce, but not overpowering the flavour of the prawns.

As the sunset, we watched the crowds enjoying the beach and the lights gradually flicker on up the beach as the many bars and restaurants came to life.

The restaurant and bar are open, not hidden behind glass, so you hear the waves lapping as the tide changes - it's the perfect atmosphere for a sensational meal in a fantastic location.
