The Chocolate Apple Factory

In the midst of the (currently) hot and barren Goulburn Valley, there is a small, sugary oasis for you to seek out. Here you will find a factory specialising in a fairly extraordinary type of produce. This produce combines two great things of the world - the rejuvenating juiciness of apples, and candy-coated chocolate. Welcome to the
Chocolate Apple Factory .
The factory is run by the lovely Geoff and Vera Flemming and the apples come from their very own orchards, which you will notice are next to the factory. Their land sprouts a variety of other fruits too, which form some of the other products that are made and sold in the factory. These include fruit liqueurs, juices, jams, and other gourmet groceries.
This family owned factory is open to the public and is a growing attraction in the Shepparton region, with the factory being located along School Road, around 10 kilometres east of the CBD. Trust me when I say that it is incredibly friendly. We were greeted by Vera the moment we stepped through the factory door. Very shortly after, she offered us samples of apple juice (pink lady, granny smith, and then a pink lady and lemon blend) and a rocky-road coated apple. Must say that these were just the refreshments we needed in the midst of the forty degree heat that blanketed the area.
[ADVERT]In between writing this article up, I have actually been munching away at one of the chocolate-apples (prices between $8 and $12) that we have bought back. It is a milk chocolate-coated apple, with the chocolate half covered in hundreds-and-thousands. Biting into the refrigerator-stored sweet was a little challenging, especially with the layer of caramel that glues the smooth chocolate to the apple skin.
I say that the taste, although pretty rich, is worth all of your gnawing and chewing efforts. It is also worth the mess you are likely to make, and the sticky fingers that will make you feel like a toddler all over again. All of this is especially rewarding once you have reached the apple inside and the juices seep through with every crunch through the heavenly candy, chocolate, and caramel.
Now as I said, there are other beautiful fruity products on offer for you to whisk away from the factory, such as the juices ($4.50/bottle). On the other hand there are some tempting, pure chocolate and candy products. Why not much on a chocolate-freckles version of your initials (also $4.50 each)? Or give one of the chocolatey initials to a sweet-tooth that you know? Additionally, chocolate lolly-pops are sure to bring out the child in everybody.
I highly recommend anyone who will be around Shepparton area to making a visit to Geoff and Vera's chocolate-apple factory (that is, after checking the venue's seasonally-determined opening times). I hope that you enjoy the sweet and refreshing combination of apples and chocolate as much as I did, and that you walk away with some tasty treats to savour.
