The Change Room is a small op shop near the train line in the leafy suburb of Keperra. It is funded by 'Build the Future', which is run by Mel Minichiello and fantastic team of volunteers.
Build the Future Foundation began in 2007 as a way to empower and support the at-risk young people in our communities by raising funds for Connect, an adventure-based learning program. Today their vision has grown as they build partnerships, programs and safe places for young people from diverse backgrounds and experiences in our community.
The Change Room is a 2nd hand clothing store and community hub that's helping to build brighter futures for young people and the community.
Here you will find dresses, tops, skirts, shorts, jeans and shoes all in great condition. The men's section is smaller but what is there is in excellent condition. There is another area dedicated to boys and girls clothes.
Regularly the clothes are discounted so new stock comes in every day. There is a small play area for children and two bookshelves full of mostly novels which you may borrow.
The clothes range in price from a few dollars up to twenty-five dollars. You can also buy jewellery, belts and accessories for some small change.
You are welcome to donate any of your good-quality clothes by dropping them to the store during opening hours.
Great article Emma. It's good to see organisations that are helping our youth. I would like to see more organisations helping out the troubled youth and trying to get them connected to study, work, etc.
