If you want to stretch your creative ways in a fun new way, I suggest checking out this paint your own ceramics studio in Indooroopilly. It's cheap, fun and you get to take home your very own painting masterpiece. It's also an excellent activity for a rainy day as you get to sit inside with a nice hot drink (although with the air conditioning on it can get pretty chilly).

You can also go to this studio to create your own pottery pieces on a wheel and then paint them, as well as a number of different workshops that can be found on their website. But for today, I'll be talking about drop-in painting sessions only.

Conveniently placed right next to Indooroopilly station (or a short walk from the shopping centre), it's so easy to make this a routine weekend event.

First and foremost, you'll need to pick what you want to paint. This was secretly very hard. If you didn't instantly find what you wanted, it could take an age to figure out exactly what you wanted to choose out of all the options available.

Once you've picked your piece, the staff help you with the basics of ceramic painting, such as explaining the process of cleaning your item as well as going through all the colours and special effects available to you. I never realised all the different possibilities that could be achieved simply by varying the number of paint layers, or through using special paints containing pieces of glass that literally shatter and explode to create new and unique pieces. Being able to pick which colours you wanted to use was widely acknowledged as being one of the most difficult tasks of the day.

The staff also go above and beyond to make sure you're having a good time which is a true credit to the love and joy put into this studio. There is a complimentary tea, coffee and hot chocolate station for the patrons, and we were even given mini mint chocolate rolls to snack on while we painted. The atmosphere is lovely and cheery, and this is further assisted by the staff who are always happy to chat and help you out.

When we entered the studio, it was quite empty but by the time we left, it was practically overflowing, and that was with some reservations not turning up. We were quite glad we didn't have to play musical chairs to find a seat thanks to our early reservation. It was pretty impressive to see beginners and advanced painters, as well as young children all the way to adults all coming together to have some painting fun.

Something very entertaining about the painting process is that the colours you paint on are very different from the colours that come out at the end. My friends and I had a good laugh the whole way through, hoping and praying that the colours would end up just right. So don't be discouraged if you receive funnily coloured paints, it's all part of the process!

Once a week has gone by, you can pick up your items and enjoy your masterpiece!
