Newly nestled into the quiet suburb of Kalamunda, commonly known as the cafe strip for the local retirees, The Cavern tapas restaurant and bar is a welcomed, lively hang out for this sleepy town. Located on Mead Street in Kalamunda, The Cavern offers a range of world tapas and everyday specials to cater for any diner.
I tried out this restaurant with my partner for the first time this week, both going in not knowing what to expect as we weren't familiar with any tapas menus. We were surprised that for a Wednesday night, the restaurant was a buzz with diners, aged from kids dining with their families, to groups of friends and lastly couples just like us wanting a mid-week outing.
The waiter's were very nice and attentive, asking us several times if everything was alright and giving their recommendations on what they liked best on the menu. We started off with two meals, the french fries with aioli and some freshly baked baguettes with warm olives, almonds, chorizo and Persian fetta. Both dishes were very well cooked and brought out quickly to our table.
Needing a little bit more food for the two of us, we each ordered another two dishes, the double crumbed French brie on a walnut and pear salad and the tacos with spicy meat, guacamole and sour cream.
After all four dishes, we JUST managed to fit in a dessert to share which was equally as enjoyable as all the other dishes.
I would strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone that is keen on trying new things and is interested in trying dishes from a international menu. It is a great little restaurant that can easily cater for couples or even bigger groups for a much needed catch up dinner. They are fully licensed and have an extensive champagne and wine list, as well as beer and soft drinks.
For people familiar with the Kalamunda area, this restaurant has taken over where the Bangles Indian restaurant used to be, close to the Kalamunda bus station.
