If you love cats as much as I do, and yes I am a crazy cat lady, then Maneki Neko Cat Lounge in Preston is the purrfect place to surround yourself with these gorgeous feline fur babies. I must admit, I have been stalking cats for months as we are currently looking to get a fur friend for our tuxedo cat called Kiki!
You can't miss the Maneki Neko HQ as their logo is branded on the top of a huge warehouse in Regent St, just off Gilbert Road. You can drop into one of the cafes and bring in a tea or coffee to drink whilst you are relaxing in the cat lounge. Don't forget to take off your shoes!
I discovered "meowfulness meditation" class on a Monday night at Maneki Neko and left feeling quite relaxed and content that I was able to pat and play with the cats before and after the session. This was my chance to see more cats and cute kittens and at the same time practise some mindfulness meditation on a Monday night, which is just what I needed. Cats can do wonders for the soul!
As you step in the cat lounge (or should I refer to it as cat heaven), you can explore the luxurious lounge room and find cats and kittens tucked away in ever corner. It's a bit like playing hide and seek! Possum, one of the cats, seemed to love my handbag, so make sure you have it zipped up!
The cat lounge is a fun space to explore, whether the cats are playing or just lounging around or perched up high on one of the tree stands - you can't resist stroking their soft bodies or picking one up to cuddle. The staff on hand can give you a good run down on which cat or kitten would be suitable for your home and also teach you in how to read cats.
Why not grab a friend or bring your kids down and make yourself at home, lounging on your favourite arm chair or grab a cat toy and find your perfect kitty playmate. From $12 you can book a session for up to one hour. Great for families and children, couples, a first date and for all cat lovers young or old. The cat lounge is also a great place to have a catch up with friends, hold a meeting or workshop or even have a party. Why not book the entire lounge for your cat loving friends.
Maneki Neko is run by passionate cat loving volunteers and there is so much to do that you will not want to leave without adopting one of the cats or you may find yourself walking out with a substitute cat toy!
From unique hand made cat accessories for grown ups to plush cat toys, painted ceramic mugs and jewellery. There is also a gallery in the hallway, heading up to the entrance of the cat lounge. Here you can admire some very talented local artists, from painters to illustrators, street artists and pet photographers.
Keep in touch on social media for the latest events at the Maneki Neko HQ. The money raised during a vegan BBQ, a garage or plant sale, go directly to the medical and vet bills for the cats. They are all desexed, wormed, flead, and micro chipped.
If the cat lounge and shop isn't enough to get your fix, then you can join in every few weeks and do cat yoga, in partnership with Hot Spots yoga studio next door. Sunday morning around 8am, you can join other cat lovers along with the cats from Maneki Neko for an hour of Vinyasa Flow Yoga, whilst surrounded by 8 to 10 cats. Yoga matts are supplied and all you need to bring is water. Fancy doing downward facing dog with a cat or cats directly under you on your matt!
