Our pets quickly claim their place in our hearts and our homes, but anyone who's had pets will know just how hard it is to take a good photo of them - I'm sure all pet owners have more than a few blurry photos of their furbaby who is not even giving them the courtesy of looking at the camera! Taking your pet for a professional photoshoot is a great way to capture the individuality and uniqueness of each of your furbabies, and display it as a tangible object, and not just in that special place in your heart.

Rachel literally grew up with photography - she helped out whenever she could at her Dad's photography studio, before deciding to study Art and Design at a tertiary level. Rachel has worked in studios specialising in babies, children, and families, but also had a passion for photographing pets. She's now worked as a photographer for a wide variety of clients and occasions, including schools, graduations, corporate, newborn photos, and Santa photos. 5 years ago, Rachel took the leap to start up Rachel Regan Photography, specialising in pets, children, family and Santa photos, and now, with all this experience under her belt, Rachel opened up The Canine Studio - the rest is history!

In addition to extensive experience in the photography field, Rachel is also very experienced with animals; dogs in particular. Having been working and training with dogs for many years, Rachel understands the importance of understanding animal behaviour when photographing them. Rachel currently works for Guide Dogs Queensland in addition to her photography ventures, and has her own dog, Harry, a Silky Terrier x Australian Terrier.
Great shots of Harry, taken by Rachel and displayed at The Canine Studio.
The Canine Studio is located in Strathpine on the northside, an easy 30 minute drive from Brisbane City. The name Strathpine is Scottish - strath means valley and pine refers to the Pine River. The Canine Studio is a few minutes walk from popular Pine Rivers Park, a very large park with facilities to suit patrons of all ages and needs. Located in a small village-esque area with a single row of shops, there is plenty of free parking for clients of The Canine Studio. While we're on the topic, amongst the shops is Northside Vet Care, who offers free dental health checks for your pet!
Contrary to its name, The Canine Studio does not take photos of only dogs - although they do specialise in dogs, they also specialise in pets in general, in addition to families. Rachel has over 10 years experience in photography, and loves to photograph babies, children, pets, and families.

How does the photoshoot process at The Canine Studio work?
If this is your first photoshoot, don't fret - the process is simple and Rachel is there to help you if you have queries at any step in the process. It was my first photoshoot in Australia (and Eddy's too!), but we found the whole process easy and not at all stressful.
1. Contact Rachel at The Canine Studio through phone (0429535205), email (firstname.lastname@example.org), or through their contact form on their website.
2. Set up a mutually suitable appointment.
3. Discuss some specific details with Rachel, so that she can best tailor the photoshoot to you and your pet, including:
Pet's demographics (e.g. species, breed, age)
How you would describe your pet's personality
Any tricks your pet may know
What photos you are looking for (e.g. just of your pet or of you and your pet)
4. Turn up to your appointment, and have fun at the photoshoot!
5. Return to the studio approximately one week later to view your photos, and should you decide to, order any item(s) that you would like. Note: It takes about a week in between the shoot and the viewing to allow time for Rachel to edit the photos (to perfection).
6. Collect your items once they are ready. Note: Please allow 2-3 weeks for orders.
7. Enjoy your photos!
8. Share your wonderful photos with your family and friends!
What do I need to bring to a photoshoot at The Canine Studio?
The short answer is that it's entirely up to you! Each photoshoot is different, and each client will be looking for something different in the photos. Things that would make a good photo is if you have anything of significance to either you or your pet, such as blankets, toys, outfits, and certificates of achievements (e.g. upon graduation from puppy school). Or choose to bring along nothing at all, because The Canine Studio has heaps of props for you to choose from at their studio.
Eddy and I brought along his favourite ball, my pug onesie (because I'm a pug mum), and a flag of the country in which I was born and raised. These were all things of significance to us, so it was great to be able to incorporate them into the photos. I also brought along treats for Eddy, which was both an incentive and a reward - photo shoots can be quite tiring!
How much does getting our photos done at The Canine Studio cost?
The photo shoot itself (known as a 'sitting') is normally $140, but is currently offered at a discounted price of $90 until June 2017 to celebrate the launch of The Canine Studio. The Canine Studio also offer monthly specials, so follow them on Facebook to stay tuned for updates!
Keep your eyes peeled for special deals like these!
Does The Canine Studio offer any other services other than photography?
Starting from January next year, Pet Parties will be available starting from $140 for an hour party, which will include treats for both the people and doggy guests, organised activities and games, and of course, photo taking sessions! More information will be released at a later date on both their Facebook page and website.
The photos captured Eddy's free spirit and playful nature perfectly, and I will be sure to treasure these photos in the years to come, especially later on down the track. It's worth noting that the photobooks are handmade locally, using art paper imported from the USA. Each album is handmade by a single craftsperson, and due to the exceptional quality materials used, the album carries a 30 year guarantee of workmanship and materials.
Thanks so much Rachel for taking the time to photograph Eddy and I, we can't express in words how much fun we had and how much we love the photos. I would not hesitate to recommend Rachel, The Canine Studio and/or Rachel Regan Photography to anyone looking to get photos of their pets or their families - everyone is welcome here at The Canine Studio!
