Where is ?

is located in Highfields, a town and locality in the Toowoomba region just a 15 minute drive from the city centre. It is situated on the Great Dividing Range, and serves as a "satellite suburb" to the city of Toowoomba. The Highfields is currently one of the fastest growing area in Australia, and is the fastest growing area in Queensland.

More specifically, The Cafe is located within the Abbie Lane Arts and Crafts Village , set in a historic old church that has since transformed into a unique boutique shop. It's a must-see landmark when in Highfields! In addition to The Cafe and locally owned Highfields & District Realty , five other shops make up the Abbie Lane Arts and Crafts Village:

  • So Sweet - old style lolly shop with homemade fudge made fresh in store, ice creams, lollies
  • Little Ele's Baby Boutique - the best collection of handmade clothing and nursery decor
  • Honeychrome Boutique - vintage inspired clothing and accessories
  • Fairy Dell - all things fairy
  • Gottabee Country - unique restored furniture, accessories and homewares

  • What is the ambience like at ?

The Cafe is set amongst award winning cottage gardens - you'll feel right at home in this warm, family-friendly atmosphere. There is plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors with more choices in the latter option - you're spoiled for choice here at The Cafe, with their expansive garden and seating that literally circles the cafe itself. With rustic and vintage inspired furniture, The Cafe, especially the outdoor area, really is a majestic view to behold.

There is plenty of free space for kids to run around in (and hopefully tire themselves out) in the gardens, which should be good news for exhausted parents. However, The Cafe takes this one step further and even provides a fully fenced off play area for children, complete with a whole range of toys to keep the little ones occupied - this might possibly be a life saver for some parents!

Note: Children must be supervised by an adult at all times whilst using this play area, and toys are not allowed outside the play area. will not be held responsible for any injury to persons while in the play area.

What food is available at , and how was it?

There is so much to choose from at The Cafe in terms of food - three whole pages worth of choices, to be more specific! Plus, there's a display at the counter full of baked goods too. Even the pickiest of picky eaters won't need to worry about going hungry here at The Cafe. Their food menu is categorised into:

  • All Day Breakfast
  • Burgers (served with beer battered chips)
  • Sandwiches & Wraps (including create-your-own sandwich!)
  • Salads
  • Light Meals

  • There are vegetarian options available, in addition to gluten free bread available as an alternative with all meals - The Cafe caters for all dietary requirements. In addition, The Cafe has a "Bits for the Kids" menu (not pictured), with classic favourites including cheeseburgers, hot dogs, and fairy bread!

    Between two people, we ordered:

  • Toast with peanut butter and jam ($4.50)
  • Create-your-own sandwich - toasted multi-grain bread with smoked salmon, lettuce, carrot, cucumber, beetroot, tomatoes, red onion, and cheese ($15.50)
  • Fairy bread ($3.50)

  • The food was amazing, and was brought out really quickly, despite being prepared fresh! There really is nothing to fault with the food here at The Cafe - the pictures don't capture the indescribable taste (in the best way possible!) of the food.

What drink options are there at ?

The Cafe has a range of hot and cold drinks, and, as they are a fully licensed venue, they also have a range of alcoholic beverages. Hot drinks include your full range of coffees, including the option of soy, almond, or lactose-free milk, as well as 'flavour shots' of caramel, vanilla, hazelnut, or butterscotch. They also have a range of teas that come in a pot - all teas are made with tea leaves, not tea bags. Cold drinks include freshly blended juice of the day, and your standard iced drinks including coffee, chocolate, mocha and chai latte, in addition to milkshakes, thickshakes, and spiders. A selection of soft drinks, juices, wine, and beer are available from the drinks fridge.

We opted for a vanilla milkshake ($5.60), a pot of English Breakfast tea ($5.00), and for Eddy, water from the communal water bowl (free) - the tea was brewed fantastically, and the vanilla milkshake was just the right amount of sweet we wanted. Perfect! There is also a self-service water station located outdoors near the garden.

Does sell anything other than food and drink?

They sure do! The Cafe has on display items for sale from Paul's Pantry and Bryan's Woody Bits (bespoke timber items to order, including fruit bowls, serving platters, small furniture items, lecterns, BBQ trolleys and squatters chairs), in addition to pure honey that is locally produced in Highfields - the honey costs $6 for 500g, or $11 for 1 kg.

Is there anything else worth mentioning?

    1. The Cafe also offers catering services - simply speak to one of the staff about getting The Cafe to cater your next gathering, whether it be a platter of food for a meeting, or hosting a themed party - they are happy to do their best to help you out.

    2. The Cafe is also home to the Abbie Lane Twilight Markets on the first Friday of each month.

    3. They have free postcards up for grabs!
