The C Word is a very personal journey and are the stories of the film's director Meghan O'Hara and celebrated French neuroscientist Dr David Servan-Schreiber on their unconventional battles against cancer. This 91 minute long critically acclaimed documentary is narrated by actor and executive producer Morgan Freeman.
Dr David Servan-Schreiber looks, in particular, at the relationship between a body and its cancer. He doesn't dismiss conventional medicine nor is he anti-pharmaceutical, however he empowers the reader to tackle cancer alongside conventional treatments, or even better, help avoid cancer altogether by looking at the immune system and the roles environmental toxins, nutrition, emotions, and physical activity play in containing cancer.
You have cancer, is not something you really want to hear. We say we're afraid of it, but we don't really show it, as we continue to take actions that put us in the line of fire. Dr David Servan-Schreiber author of Anticancer, A New Way of Life, lived what he preached and will show you that you have much greater control of your destiny.
We all have cancer cells; they are the abnormal cells our body has to fight, and we have the choice to feed or starve these cells through nutrition, exercise, stress management and by avoiding toxins. It's not just the employment of one thing, but the combined effort of all facets that gives us the fighting chance to stop feeding the growth of cancer cells amongst us. It's a system; if you take one piece out, it's not going to work.
We live in an age of convenience. We sleep less, consume more, physical activity is a choice, not a necessity, and a diet that leads to obesity keeps us in an inflammatory condition; all this feeding the cancer cells within us. Exercising by walking just 30 mins a day, 6 times a week induces excess hormones that makes us more resistant to the disease and allows the body to repair itself from within. However, it's not just 'one thing', but a whole change in lifestyle that gives you a fighting chance.
This doco will have you think consciously about your life choices. Real food versus food loaded with chemicals masquerading as real food; where your food originates from; how cancer feeds off sugar; how stress effects everything and how it plays a part in destroying your immune system and more.
To top it all off, it's evident how difficult it is to change the ways of the world, the organisations that are more interested in making money than thinking about your health. This personal story is touching and you'll learn along with David, that you need to be a partner in the process of healing yourself, to realise it remains in your power to save your life and bring it to meaningful conclusion. To get back to plant based diets that have so many healing properties and most importantly, that as humans we need to connect with others and that connection of mind, body, spirit is all important.
