Is the Brownie one of America's best inventions? Did you know that the humble Brownie was created because a very wealthy lady called Bertha from Chicago, in the 19th century, wanted a small cake like treat for ladies that could easily be eaten from a lunch box when they were at a fair? Bertha requested the chef from her husband's hotel to create such a treat and as a result we have the Brownie. It's amazing what one can learn from Wikipedia.
Anyway you don't have to travel all the way to Chicago for a fabulous Brownie, just pop up to the Brownie Bar in West Pennant Hills and you will find some of the best wicked Brownie indulgences one could ever see. This small bar is packed to the brim full of a delicious assortment of Brownies and other gourmet fare such as sticky date puddings, carrot cakes, quiches and pies - all made on site.
Now the assortment of Brownies is dazzling. Of course there is the humble (actually not so humble) Belgian Chocolate Brownie, the Belgian Chocolate and Raspberry Brownie, the White Chocolate and Macadamia Brownie, the Rum and Raisin Brownie or the Jaffa Brownie. Or for those of you who love a ridiculously large overdose of chocolate why not try the Brousse - a chocolate mousse and chocolate brownie all in one?
The Brownie Bar serves excellent coffee to go with all of these wicked treats. There is a small eating area for you sit and drool over all of the freshly baked fare whilst you are savouring your Brownie indulgence. If you need a spot of lunch they serve soup, pies and paninis. Being a bar they also have a happy hour. From 2pm - 3pm every weekday you can enjoy a large coffee for $3.00, a perfect pick me up just before you commence the school run.
If West Pennant Hills is a wee bit of a trek for you, never fear, as the Brownie Bar has a weekly stand at the Everleigh Farmers' Market under their label of Fare Gourmet. They also have stands at the fortnightly Castle Hill Farmers' Market and also one at the monthly Blackheath Growers Market. If you prefer to indulge in wickedness in the seclusion of your own home - you can order your Brownie indulgence online.
