Acting is something of a family affair for mother and daughter Sharon and Juliett Greenock, after both were recognised at the Independent Theatre Association's Finley Awards – the community theatre equivalent of the Tony Awards.

Sharon was named best other than lead female in a play while Juliett took out the Brian Maddox Award for youth in a play after they appeared in Noël Coward's Relative Values last year.

Now in their 40th year, the Finley Awards are one of the longest-running awards programs in the WA arts scene and acknowledge community theatre performances for the past 12 months.

Relative Values also received several other nominations and picked up adjudicators' certificates for Tarryn Harris' creative debut as a director and Sean Bullock's short movie The Siren of the Desert used to open the show.

Sharon played the housemaid Moxie and Juliett appeared as another maid, named Alice.

Involved in Queensland theatre about 20 years ago, Relative Values was the first time Sharon performed with a WA theatre. Juliett has attended acting classes with WA Youth Theatre Company and appeared in several school productions.
"The thought of being in a production with my daughter attracted me the most," Sharon said. Adds Juliett: "I thought it would be a fun experience to be in a play with my mum."

Sharon's latest challenge is playing a menopausal Snow White in the Fringe World production The Broken Slipper, showing at Playlovers Theatre from February 19 to 22 at 8.45pm and also 3.15pm February 22.
"The challenge has been overcoming my own vulnerabilities and discomfort to show the poignant, serious sad side of Snow White's life, as well as the humour," she said.

To see Sharon in her latest play, book for The Broken Slipper at www.fringeworld.com.au – tickets are $20. It follows A Piece of Cake, a comedic historical romp about Marie Antoinette, at 7.30pm on the same dates.

Playlovers Theatre is located at Hackett Hall, Draper Street (off Underwood Avenue), Floreat.
