Be honest now, how many of you have kept souvenirs from past romantic relationships? If you answered "yes", you're not alone. In an online poll conducted by the writer, 100 percent of respondents said they had kept souvenirs from long lost loves, looking at them from time to time to remember special moments, special people, happy memories and, in the case of toenail clippings in a matchbox, why they broke up. These souvenirs help to mend a broken heart.

The story told in The Broken Hearts Gallery will resonate with anyone who has held onto tangible or intangible keepsakes of past loves - reminiscing, wondering "what if", or struggling to know what to do with the memories.

The Broken Hearts Gallery follows Lucy (portrayed by Geraldine Viswanathan), an emotional hoarder and keeper of a rather large collection of romantic souvenirs. A quirky art gallery assistant in her mid-20's, Lucy lives in New York City and, after her most recent unceremonious and very public breakup, she decides to wear her heart on her sleeve by creating and curating The Broken Hearts Gallery, a pop-up space to share a collection of romantic souvenirs (in many and sometimes disturbing forms) that love has left behind. Word of the gallery spreads and the collection explodes, encouraging a movement and fresh start for all the romantics who find release and restoration through their visits to The Broken Hearts Gallery. There is a moment of enlightenment for Lucy also as she allows herself to become immersed in the movement that her own heartbreak hatched.

Written and directed by Natalie Krinsky and with an engaging cast led by Geraldine Viswanathan and Dacre Montgomery, The Broken Hearts Gallery is a warm and gentle romantic comedy with plenty of charm, reminding us that we wouldn't be who we are without the heartbreak we've had.

This movie will appeal to young adults and mature audiences, and to those of us who keep a shoebox in our cupboard containing laughter, tears and heartbreak from the past.

If you're an emotional hoarder, we'd love to read about your own collection of souvenirs in our comments section.
