Fun, vibrant and delicious
The Briars Market is a weekly produce market that is launching on Tuesday the 20th of October. Yes, you read that right- it will be held on Tuesday afternoons from 3pm to 6pm.

The market is aimed at locals with the intention of getting them to switch their weekly supermarket shop in support of local farmers and businesses at the market. To make this a real alternative the market will be held all year round.

In wet weather check out their Facebook page for the alternative site arrangements. In hot weather look for the stallholders underneath the trees. The only time the market will be cancelled is on extreme code red fire danger days, as the park that it is held in is closed to the public.

Every stallholder there must grow or produce their food within a 40km radius of the market location: The Briars, Mt Martha. The market is launching with a dozen fabulous stallhoders. Between them they have vegetables, fruit, eggs, honey, flowers, seedlings and more.

There are also secondary producers (still all local) attending the market. These include a local baker, cheesemaker and confectioner. There will be local wine, olive oil and preserves.

If you're getting 3:30-peckish, which happens to the best of us, there is popcorn to eat on site, as well as freshly made fruit sorbet, and coffee made from locally roasted beans.

Briars Market
The Briars is the perfect location for a weekly market

Sneak in before your school pick up, or bring the kids along afterwards. Pop in on your way home from work. Skip the trip to the supermarket and you'll end up supporting local farmers, and eating fresher produce.

Remember to bring along your fabric bags as the market is plastic bag free and aiming at being zero waste. There will be calico bags available for purchase at each market if necessary.

For more information on the individual stallholders check out the Meet the Producer page put together by the Briars Market organisers.

The easiest way to get to the market is by car. The Briars is on Nepean Highway, just past the Cragie Rd intersection if you're coming from the North. There is heaps of free parking on the property, so no need to worry about that. There is also disabled access, and toilets on site.

If you have further questions about volunteering, having a stall, or anything else, you can contact Matt or Rach on 0478 536 081.
