When I Get My Name In Lights
From Lismore to Liza, from little boy to larger than life, Peter Allen certainly made his mark in music. As a singer, songwriter and entertainer Allen endeared himself to people all over the world with a mix of cabaret, ballads and Latin flair.
The Boy From Oz opens on Friday the 4th of August at Brisbane Arts Theatre, and tickets are guaranteed to sell quickly. Keep reading for more on this lively and colourful spectacular, and for your chance to win a double pass to the show!
William Toft returns as Peter Allen, a part which he brought to life in last year's run of
The Boy From Oz. While accurately portraying Peter's onstage flamboyance, the audience will be taken with the vulnerability that William brings to the ultimately careful and considered role.
Together with William, director John Boyce's style is apparent throughout the show. John comes from a very strong theatre background, and through strong personal and character development the audience will feel very much as if they have been let into Peter Allen's life.
Even though this is a very strong dramatic production, there are still many show-stopping musical numbers; some adapted from Allen's own classics, and some written especially for The Boy From Oz.
Steinway & Sons (Exclusive Piano Group) are kindly sponsoring the show, and have generously provided a beautiful Steinway & Sons grand piano for William to play during the show. Watching
I Still Call Australia Home and
I Go To Rio played on an instrument such as this is guaranteed to make you cry and then dance in your seat.
