If one is seeking an evening of sheer class, then Fortitude Valley may not be the first location to spring to mind. However, creep a little deeper and there are a few hidden and surprising gems, including The Bowery.
Located on Ann Street, yet virtually tucked out of sight, The Bowery is a small and highly intimate establishment, perfect for a romantic Brisbane evening. The interior is narrow and simple, with only one row of booths opposite the bar, giving the illusion of a private evening – an illusion aided by the dim and atmospheric lighting.
The ambience of such a lush evening comes with the accompanying price tag; drinks can cost up to $20. However, the cocktail menu is varied and one is offered a delicious drink, made with the care and delicate attention you would hope for from friendly and well-presented staff. It is the experience one is truly paying for, not merely an alcoholic beverage, so next time you want to feel intoxicated with the added benefit of finesse, look no further than Fortitude Valley. I may never have expected to see those two phrases in the same sentence, but The Bowery, like Brisbane itself sometimes, is just full of tantalising little surprises.
All a few steps from Brisbane's public transport network (regular buses from all directions frequent the Valley, and Ann Street is just around the corner from the Fortitude Valley Railway Station), The Bowery is open every evening except Monday, from 5pm-3am.
