The Book of Onions, by Jake Thompson, is the first paperback compilation of the bi-weekly webcomic Jake Likes Onions . It contains no actual onions. The comics are clever, cynical, and occasionally disturbing. Sometimes they are about relatable things, like how to throw a used tissue into a bin, and other times they are about something more bizarre, like goth ducks, or bubbles that burst you (in Soviet Russia?). It reminded me of Kate Beaton's Hark, A Vagrant! in the style of humour and the historical references.

The Book of Onions would be a fairly quick read if you decided to enjoy it all at once, but it's also a book you could dip in and out of at your leisure. It would make a great gift for someone with a slightly dark sense of humour.

Disclaimer: I was given a complimentary copy of this book by Andrews McMeel Publishing, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.
