I won't lie, I was asleep long before the clock struck 12 on New Year's Eve. I find the whole event over-rated & I'm honestly not sure if getting plastered and playing with fire(works) is really the best way to start a New Year.
This is why I found myself swaggering into The Boathouse Café in Daylesford on New Year's morning feeling fresh and relaxed amongst the big sunglasses & even bigger hangovers. I would have kicked myself if I had been too hungover to enjoy this splendid little Café.
It was a beautiful sunny morning so my husband & I elected to sit outdoors on the large deck which overlooks Daylesford Lake. We were initially sat on the corner of a large share table although the waitress kindly moved us as soon as a better position became available.
Coffee came first & if I'm honest, it was probably one of the best soy lattes I've had outside Melbourne. A little too hot for a latte, but creamy & not curdled at all.
The meals struck me as expensive for breakfast ($20 per serve) but when our plates were delivered I was delighted to see that generous serves matched the generous price tags. I had smashed avo, with goat's cheeses, spinach & mushrooms on toast. As I don't eat eggs I also asked for a serve of crispy bacon with my meal. YUM. Hubby's spiced chickpeas with hash brown, bacon & fried eggs was equally as generous & we wolfed down our meals in no time.
The view from our little table was fairly magical & we watched ducks swimming on the lake while we ate & enjoyed the peace & quiet. On a side note, if we ever stay in Daylesford again I will definitely be running around this lovely little lake before I stop for brekky!
The Boathouse Café Daylesford is open 7 days a week 9am – 4pm Monday – Friday & 8.30am – 4pm on Saturday & Sunday. This sweet little café offers a casual dining experience for breakfast & lunch.
