View looking back at Victor Harbour - Photo by Allan
On the weekend, we went down to Victor Harbour and found it a hive of summer holiday activity. Rides and side-show stalls had been set up on the grassy verge between the Whale Centre and the water's edge. There were merry-go-rounds, and laughing clowns and fishing games, as well as hot-dog and ice-cream, stands. Fun for the kids!
Out the "front" of the Victor Hotel, (which has entrances from most directions, so I mean the street front, rather than the park-side) a large screen broadcast the cricket for people to watch, using outdoor seating instead of an indoor sport-bar. It is amazing how things can be adapted for different times and purposes.
The city centre had attracted a small crowd, and in these days of social distancing, we looked for something else to do. Driving out of the township a little, we followed signs to "The Bluff". A short unsealed road took us along the water's edge to a look-out and fishing point.
On the hill above, a track wound it's way up past the rocky outcrop. If one were energetic, one could climb up and have a fantastic view of the ocean, and a couple of islands. This activity is individual enough to be safe as exercise even during times when we are taking precautions not to gather in large groups.
