The Big Pram Walk 2017 will be held on Sunday the 19th of November at Elizabeth Quay in Perth to coincide with Perinatal Depression and Anxiety Week which was previously known as Postnatal Depression Awareness Week.
The name of the week was changed to reflect the importance of recognizing and supporting the mental health of parents from the start of the perinatal period through to after birth. A lot of parents suffer from anxiety and depression before, immediately and after child birth. It is important that they receive the support and guidance they need when they need it.
This year the Big Pram Walk will be raising funds for the Gidget Foundation which is expanding into Western Australia in 2017. The Gidget Foundation is a not for profit organisation which aims to help care for the emotional wellbeing of new parents and their families and strives to provide educational opportunities for health professionals and the local community.
The day starts at 8am and events finish up at 11am. A mini-carnival will open at 8am for the kids to enjoy. There will also be a toddler's sensory play area, health and wellbeing demonstrations and a selection of food and beverage stalls.
The Big Pram Walk is a calm and casual "no race" walk that the whole family will enjoy. You do not need a pram to participate. There will be no winner. People are encouraged to take their time, meet some other parents, share some funny stories and to try and make some new friends.
Don't forget to wear a hat, wear comfortable shoes, bring a drink bottle, and put on some sunscreen.
For more information including how to pre-register for the event it is recommended you check out the Big Pram Walk's website.
