No-one really knows how the small town of Bororen in Queensland got its name; however, the town has given many a traveller a reason to stop on his way north. In the 2011 census Bororen had a population of 417 people with the average age of 45 years.

Bororen is around 478 km north or Brisbane and situated on the Bruce Highway between Miriam Vale and Gladstone. The Bororen Post Office opened in 1898 with the school following in January 1900.



Recently driving north, my friends and I stopped at The Big Giraffe Café & Gallery which is on the highway passing though Bororen.

What caught our eye first was a life size alien statue right out the front. So real looking was this alien with those oversized oval eyes in a grey body and gangling fingers like ET, I couldn't help but get my photo taken with him.



The Big Giraffe Café is open from 7.30am to 4pm daily and caters for meals of homemade pies, muffins and sandwiches and as the sign says 'real coffee'.

A gallery extension called Davo's Little Something within the Café complex, houses the most amazing figurines of animals big and small. These figurines can be shipped anywhere. Prices vary; however if you suggest a reasonable price you just may be able to take that special piece home with you.



A zebra seat built for two captured my vision as I walked out into the backyard display. The seat which was dipped for the curve of your bottom was very comfortable and the whole zebra seat was not as heavy as one might think. The dragon reminded me of TV series Game of Thrones as it stood proudly in the garden. A large gorilla greeted us at the front door and an equally large black and white panda at the back door.





Even if your visit wasn't for purchase, the wow factor was truly worth the stop. Donations are welcome at the door.
