There is something satisfying about the "thwack" of a well hit golf ball. At the Big Easy driving range there was quite a bit of good hitting going on, including some from our five and seven year olds.

It was the first time we had visited so we were not sure how it would go. The man in the office was very friendly and explained the price structure and what was included. Click here to check all this information on the website.

We choose the $17 package. For that we got 100 balls and adult and children's irons. It was $6 extra for a driver. We were pleased that they catered for our left handed son as golf is tricky enough without having to use the opposite clubs.

Once you have paid you receive a ticket with a code on it. Take this to the ball machine, put in the code and the magic happens. The kids thought it was great watching the machine fill our bucket of balls.

Once you get to the range there are a series of cubicles with a mat in each and rubber tees. There is enough room to put your clubs and balls within easy reach. Sometimes it did feel like you could not take a full swing as there was not enough room behind you, but I think this was a perception only as no-one actually hit the safety rope at the back.

There are several interesting markers out on the range placed at different distances. This is handy if you are trying to gauge how far you hit it. If like me you are just happy to actually hit the ball there is plenty of open space in between.

Sharing the balls between the four of us in two spaces we got through the 100 balls in about 20 minutes. We got 50 more balls as we were all enjoying it so much. To get extra balls you have to visit the office again. It would be handy if you could just swipe your card at the ball machine which was a lot closer.

If you feel like some extra practice there are putting and chipping greens available. They also do corporate days and coaching. For some family fun or just to work on your game a visit to The Big Easy is a hit.
