The Big Draw is a worldwide celebration of drawing. It originated in the United Kingdom, where it has transformed from a one day event into a month-long festival that takes place in October each year. More and more people around the rest of the world are also attending their events. In Australia, the first large-scale collaboration of a Big Draw event will be attempted in Newcastle on Friday January 25, from 10.00am to 4.00pm.
The aim of The Big Draw Newcastle is to extend the mission set out by Campaign for Drawing (who began the event in the United Kingdom). That is, it wants to 'raise the profile of drawing and promotes it as a tool for thought, creativity, social and cultural engagement' and 'further encourage and consolidate support between the creative industries and the wider business and cultural communities of Newcastle'.
The event is appropriate for children and families, who will be nearing the end of the school holidays and getting ready to go back to school. Why not mark this event down and give your kids something to look forward to at the end of January?
