Most people in NSW have probably never heard of Nyngan and that's exactly why the town has erected a giant bogan statue. The hope is that it will become a tourist attraction like Australia's other Big Things and people will no longer just drive through Nyngan without stopping. Evidently it's worked on me, because I've already pulled up for a photo.

The fact that a bogan was chosen for the statue may seem strange, but it's not a reflection of the character of town. The statue plays on the fact that Nyngan is in the Bogan Shire , a name that comes from its location on the Bogan River.

itself is made of rusted iron and the over-sized sculpture will catch your eye as you drive along on Pangee Street. It's located in the small Teamsters Rest Area. Look out for features like the southern cross tattoo, the mullet and the esky. Though it's supposed to be distinctly Australian, I actually think the bogan looks a bit like Hulk Hogan (something about the facial hair).

Pangee Street is a main street of Nyngan, but not one you will use if you're just passing through (both the Mitchell and Barrier highways leave the town), so you will have to make a bit of an effort to get a picture.
