The Big Apple - a Royal Gala
Travelling with kids, you cannot miss any of Australia's "big" icons and
The Big Apple at Thulimbah on the New England Highway is a good one to stop off at. I love exploring these kitch Aussie icons and Vincenzo has set up a fantastic excuse to make this place worth your while - part information centre, part retail outlet, part wine bar, part deli, part cafe - you cannot go wrong here.
The original Big Apple was a Granny Smith (green) but after a bit of "re-grafting", it's been transformed into a stunning Royal Gala (red). The steel and fibreglass sculpture stands 4 metres high and measures 4.5 metres in diametre. Wow.

Purchase your locally picked apples here
Vincenzo's at The Big Apple is
the place to buy your freshly picked apples, cherries, peaches, pears (whatever fruit happens to be in season) have some lunch, have a coffee and cake and stock up on authentic Italian deli supplies. Maybe you might get a bit side tracked in the wine and liqueur tasting section with its toasty log fire or maybe you might leave with a host of apple themed souvenirs - the main thing is to stop and refresh and have some fun.
