A mum who uses adventures and outings around town as an excuse to avoid the housework.

There is something extra special about a trip to a market compared with a trip to the shops. Markets are not just about making a purchase. Each has its own unique appeal in this mini community which seems to pop up from nowhere only to disappear the next day. It can be made into an outing for the day, giving shoppers the opportunity to browse and soak up the atmosphere while attempting to find that perfect gift or that fantastic bargain.
There is something even more special about purchasing those one-of-a-kind items that have been handmade by a talented artist or designer. These are the type of markets I like to frequent - those that showcase unique, handmade, arts and crafts or designer products. I love to be inspired by the creativity of designers and their attention to detail. From jewellery, to clothing, to furniture, I am often in awe of it all and secretly envious of their skills. Personal service is almost always guaranteed as many of the designers also run their own market stalls, allowing shoppers the opportunity to fully investigate the creation of their potential purchase. Creative markets really tick all the boxes – a pleasant shopping experience and quality products, whilst supporting local and small businesses.
Perhaps you've been searching for that perfect gift for mother's day, Christmas, a friend's birthday or maybe even something to treat yourself. What about finding that perfect something for that someone who already has everything? Brisbane's creative, handmade and designer markets might just be the answer to such a shopping dilemma.
So Brisbane, just where are our best creative markets? What makes them so great? Which are definitely worth clearing the schedule or travelling the distance for? Please leave your comments below to share with other weekend notes readers.
Humble Be Market has a new home. Tullawong State School (10 minutes north of Bunnings Morayfield ) has agreed to allow us to use their amazing hall.
We are very excited to be working with Tullawong SS and the surrounding community to showcase our wonderfully talented Humble Be family and to all our future stallholders.
We promote Handmade, handcrafted and homegrown. We want to bring healthy and diverse foods from all cultures, fresh produce , as well as handmade crafts, arts and designs from extremely talented people !!!
We will also be starting a mentor programme in conjunction with the school and will be sending out an email with more info soon.
Our first market is 13 February ....the day before St Valentines Day.
We will showcase talent from all around the area including dance, cooking, stories , music - LIFE !!!!!!
We can't wait to see you on the 13 the February. It is on the 2nd Saturday of every month and this month on the 13th February will be their first in their new venue. They are family orientated and friendly stallholders will be sure to make a wonderful day out!
BrisStyle hands down puts on the best local handmade markets. The quality is incredible, the range is varied and excellent locations with the BrisStyle Indie Twilight Markets in King George Square, biannual markets at St Augustines in Hamilton and now the new boutique style markets being held inside the gorgeously renovated City Hall.
I love the West End Twilight markets for atmosphere. It's small, relaxed, and always fun. And there's a new kid in town with the Unleashed Alternative Markets in Toombul but which is also branching out to the Gold Coast, Caloundra and Toowoomba to give the South East alternatives not only a great place to shop but an event in itself.
Kustom Krafts held at Sandgate Bowls Club and Pimpama is a fabulous place to get your rock n roll on with always excellent live music and don't forget gorgeous 50's fashion and hot rods.
I could keep going of course, but these are my top picks
The Handmade Expo Markets at Morayfield ( that is still technically Brisbane isn't it?) are a fantastic monthly market held in a huge indoor venue at the Morayfield. Everything at these lifestyle markets is high quality Handmade, home baked or home grown ( with some artist supplies as well). With up to 130 stalls, there is a great variety, along with some great coffee, it is worth an outing to the The Handmade Expo Market Morayfield on the first Sunday of the month from 9am to 2pm. There is plenty of handy free parking, entry is free and there is lots of room for strollers and prams. There are more details atwww.thehandmadeexpo.com.au
BrisStyle is the best in Brisbane. Small boutique style markets are inside City Hall on the second Saturday of each month and the Twilight Markets in King George Square are on every second month. Every market BrisStyle puts on has the best range, highest quality goods and is guaranteed to have handmade artisans (not cheap knock-off stuff from overseas)
