Who doesn't love a cheap drink in this chic, cosmopolitan city that is Sydney? The people of Sydney love to have a drink or two occasionally from cocktails to beer and the occasional vodka shots in between. From experience I am able to provide you with the go to places in Sydney that provide cheap drinks to begin with; that's right even before happy hour time, plus these establishments also have decent happy hours on as well. Score.

1. Old Fitzroy Hotel

Tucked away in an area where pubs are not usually in vogue, yet this establishment has that traditional european glitz and glamour feel. Definitely a traditional looking establishment that has been modernised. Cheap grog is available here, with 13 different beers available on tap with a stunning (but small) theatre. There are two bars on two different levels with a cosy ambience and a great place to drink with old fashioned customer service.

2. Shakespeare Hotel

Sure this establishment in Surry Hills has a bit of a rough vibe to it, yet with safety in numbers you can score yourself a cheap feed with a schooner of beer for $12.50. Their steaks are well cooked with generous portions of meat. Straight to the second floor away from the watering hole en masse on a fairly low key evening. Wednesday nights are ideal.

3. Abercrombie Hotel

A great hang out spot for university students. If you like your grease occasionally with some quality drinks, then you are in heaven. Cheap hot dogs on Tuesday nights, and cheap tacos on Wednesday nights. Beware: be prepared to share your burger as they are so massive. It's a cool hang out spot once in a while regardless.

4. The Crossing

A place in Bondi where I know off the top of my head their happy hours. Drumroll: Monday to Friday 4pm to 6pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 2pm-5pm. A glass of house red in this trendy locale for $5 a pop during this time; it is not too bad and the wine tastes much better than many of the happy hour wines I have tried in the past. Drinks start from $4 a pop during happy hour, and the vibe is so opulent.

5. PJ O'Briens

Cheap food and Guiness...what more could you want? If you have Scruffy Murphy's in your mind, delete the latter establishment from your knowledge base and give this establishment a go and you will be surprised. A popular Irish pub any day of the week.

6. Blackbird Cafe

Love the $10 cocktails between 5pm-6pm daily. Payment must be made at the bar, not when paying with your meals. Doesn't matter. Sipping a glorious cocktail overlooking water views on the balcony sitting down in a popular locale, this is simple heaven.
