The Beauty Chef – Book Review

The Beauty Chef by Carla Oates is a beautiful cookbook packed with one hundred and fifty delicious and nutritious recipes which are gluten-free and mostly dairy-free.

I was looking forward to reading The Beauty Chef as I've read many magazines articles over the years written by Carla. She has been a regular beauty columnist in Wellbeing Magazine.

The first couple of chapters cover the introduction, kitchen tips, a list of key beauty nutrients and the link between our gut health and our skin. Carla's philosophy is summed by this quote from the book:

"I believe beauty is an inside-out process. Glowing skin is basically a reflection of healthy cells and the solution to a clearer, more radiant complexion and general well-being occurs when you balance your gut and feed your body nutrient-dense food."

There are chapters for breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner, sides, desserts, baking, drinks and basics. Be tempted by recipes for vanilla spiced chia breakfast puddings with blackberries and choc-nut crunch, sweet potato latkes with goat's cheese cream, sautéed spinach and poached egg, spiced fish tacos with slaw, avocado and fermented salsa, Mediterranean cauliflower pizza, baked smoky barbeque ribs and carrot and rosemary cake with labneh and cacao butter frosting.

We tried the get glowing breakfast smoothie bowl which is a delicious blend of blueberries and acai pulp which are full of antioxidants. I can't wait to make the chocolate and peppermint crunch slice for the holidays.

I just wish the cover wasn't white because I'm afraid of dirtying the cover in the kitchen!

The Beauty Chef would make a great present for yourself or someone else who loves to eat clean and healthy.

The Beauty Chef is available in hardback from your favourite bookseller.
