Shopping and coffee, they go hand in hand, don't they? I believe that the experience is even better when it is all in the one location, and have I found the perfect place to combine both. The Bank Bazaar in Richmond is a gorgeous emporium of fabulous antiques, curios and accessories that is also home to a lovely café, where one can sit and enjoy a perfectly brewed coffee and delicious cake whilst pondering what they should purchase.
The Bank Bazaar is Housed in the Beautiful Old CBC Bank Building
The Bank Bazaar is located in the old CBC Bank Building. The owners purchased the building about two years ago and undertook a massive refurbishment to create the beautiful space that the Bank Bazaar is today. Why not take a peak in the old bank vault?
This treasure trove is full of lovely decorative accessories such as mirrors, lamps, cushions, vases, tapestries and other objet's d'art. If your home is already full of these treasures then maybe you would prefer the gorgeous assortment of costume jewellery, scarves, old books or antique china to add to your collection.
Once you have completed your wander through the Bank Bazaar why not sit for a while in the lovely café at the back of the building and ponder times gone by, or pop outside and sit in the lovely courtyard under the jacaranda tree. French bistro style chairs and comfy couches fill the café space and right next to your seat will be a cabinet of curios or a shelf full of interesting bits and pieces to tempt your wallet.
The café serves excellent (and very reasonably priced) coffee and cake as well as more substantial lunch items such as quiche and pies. You will be tempted by a delicate lemon and pistachio cake, a mouth-watering lemon meringue pie or some locally made Glossodia Biscotti. I dare say the Bank Bazaar serves the best coffee in Richmond. They use Adore blend and it was expertly made by the delightful young waitress.
A Delicate Lemon & Pistachio Cake with Coffee $6.80
The staff at the Bank Bazaar are friendly and engaging, they have that touch of country hospitality that one finds lacking in the growth of new "hipster" cafes these days. Perhaps that is because the Bank Bazaar is located in Richmond which has a country town atmosphere even though it is located on the doorstep of Sydney.
