My favourite meal of the day has to be breakfast, and to have someone else cook and prepare it, is a real treat. Last weekend we treated ourselves to a lovely Sunday breakfast.



We had planned to go to IKEA on Sunday so having breakfast close to the CBD on our way down there was perfect. We chose at the Spicers Balfour Hotel in New Farm for our breakfast. Located in this picturesque suburb close to the city, it is tucked away on a quiet side street.



We were seated on the large wrap around verandah overlooking the court yard. The court yard was not being used due to the wet weather, but would have been quite relaxed on a sunny day.

It took a strong cup of coffee to enable me to decide on what I wanted to have for breakfast. The menu had an extensive array of breakfast items, several taking my fancy. My son's choice was the big breakfast (grilled bacon, sweet potato hash, grilled mushrooms, pork and fennel chipolatas, poached egg with tomato chilli jam).



My husband opted for the eggs Benedict with smoked salmon which is normally something I choose. My choice was the vegetarian option of grilled haloumi with asparagus, avocado and grilled red capsicum on sourdough toast.



The place was extremely busy but the staff were very accommodating and friendly. The meals being equally of a high standard and we were all happy with our breakfast experience.

Things to know, parking is available on the street only as the rear car park is for overnight guests only. Reservations are essential especially during busy weekend times and for their high tea.

[BREAK] They are open for breakfast, Monday to Friday from 6.30 - 11am and on Saturday and Sunday from 7.30 - 11am. They have high tea between 11 and 3pm Monday to Sunday. Dinner is 5pm to 9.30pm, Tuesday to Sunday.

A Sunday morning breakfast for us was well spent and we were adequately fuelled up to tackle IKEA. A rating of 4 out of 5 stars for our breakfast experience.
