Sports, politics and performers - no one is safe.

Victoria's only location

Arts Mansfield is thrilled to have secured the exclusive Victoria showing of the Bald Archy Prize Exhibition 2024!

This beloved annual event is celebrating its 28th year in 2024 and promises to captivate audiences from March 22 to April 21 at 101 High Street in Mansfield, in northeast Victoria.

Presenting a unique and often irreverent take on portraiture, the Bald Archy Prize celebrates the lighter side of art and the larrikin Australian spirit and encourages artists to explore new and creative ways of portraying public figures. Winning subjects have included Kerry Packer, Shane Warne, John Howard, Pauline Hanson Dame Edna and myriad other Australian icons.

Arts Mansfield President Gill Belle said she was delighted to host these eccentric artworks, and that the group is presenting a Special Members’ Viewing on Friday, March 22nd, and another exciting celebration dinner showing in early April.

"We open March 22, so it's a rush, but we're up to the task.

"We're setting up the venue and making plans to deliver what this irreverent exhibition demands, it's a fun event, and we want to highlight that.

"School holidays and the Easter Break are a great time to visit Mansfield, it's beautiful so we're advising everyone add a trip to the High Country before April 21.

"In past years it's been a feature of the Swanpool exhibition calendar, and Arts Mansfield is grateful for the support of their committee in bringing the Archy's back to Victoria," Mrs Belle said.

    About the Bald Archy Prize

Judge, Professor Maude Cockatoo, with an online PhD from the Marilyn Munro University of Little Rock, is the most qualified art critic, avian or otherwise, in Australia (according to Maude). As Coolac's Visual Arts Laureate, Maude has been the sole judge of the Bald Archy Prize from its inception at the 1994 Coolac Festival of Fun.

The name "Bald Archy" is a play on the Archibald Prize, and it also refers to the fact that caricatures often exaggerate features, including the subject's hair.

Established in 1994 by artist Peter Batey as a light-hearted alternative to the prestigious Archibald Prize, a major portraiture award in Australia, it is now a national touring exhibition presented by the Museum of the Riverina.
