Just like your own backyard, only better
the Backyard is a cool little bistro that is part of the
Greenlees Park Bowling Club in
Concord. Traditionally, bowling club bistros can be pretty uninspiring spaces with lacklustre food, however, a stroke of genius has transformed this one into a place you wont mind hanging around. Especially if you have kids. Serving quality pub style food, great coffee and delicious desserts is really not the main attraction here. It is their backyard.

a bowling green set up for the kids
Their "backyard" is a bowling green. A space dedicated to your kids with loads of colourful Little Tikes ride-on cars and ample space for them to run amok. It is also surrounded by seating, as per a bowling green however, should you wish to dine on the terrace while keeping an eye on your kids, you will need to book (although you still get a good view of the yard from the indoor dining area). There are also two outdoor smoking areas, one of which also gives you a good view of the kids.

Delicious desserts, panini & cakes at the counter, and the serve yourself trolley with everything you need including colouring in stuff for the kids
Food wise, there is an excellent selection as well as
several daily specials available at just $12. These include a
Sunday Roast with the lot (available until sold out) and one of the most popular, the
Big Three Cheese Chicken Parmigiana. Plus, the
kids can be fed for $8 and under with all their usual favourites. And then there is dessert. You can check out their
full menu on their
facebook page and even see some pictures of the food.

Lots of $12 Specials including a Sunday Roast
The day we visited it was raining but the fun continued indoors with a live band that even played some kid friendly songs and had them up and doing a conga line. It is great that this is a very casual and kid friendly place where you can really relax without stressing that the kids are annoying other patrons - while having a decent meal. I will suggest bringing some gumboots if the weather has been wet and the kids want to go outside.

Just look for the table with your name on it when you arrive (and have a booking)
