If you want an intimate night out with plush surroundings, dim lights, a fancy bar loaded with ridiculously yummy shots and an eye full of style you won't see anywhere else, The Backroom nightclub in Kings Cross, Sydney is the place to be and be seen.

Sydney city at night
Sydney City lit up on a weekend

The first thing I noticed when I first stepped inside, was the sexy lighting and the marvel of the wallpaper, the music had me dancing before I even made it to the dancefloor along with everyone else, (they dance furiously down here to keep warm in winter) -this place was different to anywhere else I had ever been in the city.

The style was amazing; girls looking as though they had just participated in a catwalk show with glamorous make up and threads that you would never find in a mainstream store, the guys were dressed immaculately and stylish, nowhere else could you find a guy with a shirt half undone. Girls were kissing, hugging and giggling with cocktail glasses in hand while the mirror balls casted seductive lights across the room, and the music called me.

A seductive night with music

The photo booth from the launch was still present, making the club look like a bar tucked away in Manhattan. The black and white photo strips taken on opening night were glued by the booth and each photo was full of smiles and fun.

I started my night with a delicious coconut cocktail and my friend and I hit the dancefloor. Although the temp and the volume was high, the music wasn't ear piercing loud, leaving you with a ringing noise haunting you long after you have left the club.

If style, sass and friendliness is your idea of a night out, you must check out The Backroom. It's also the best place to people watch. This place is chockas of characters who are always willing to pose for a photo.

Dress in your best, sparkly heels and your brightest lipstick and strike a pose at The Backroom, Kings Cross.

Where: 2 Roslyn St, Kings Cross

Yes the backroom is a great relaxing place with great decor (of hanging go carts and other props that mish mash a vintage and quirky feel into the place). The coconut cocktail is definitely a winner. Best yet, Thursday nights is their free music night (at 8pm-midnight) and it showcases up and coming artists that you may have heard of on triplejunearthed and it never fails disappoint. I've been 3 times and the lineup is always fantastic, referential and eclectic. A lovely venue for sure.

OK this Club Sucks, the Doormen are Meat heads and I saw a Guy Get Assaulted by One of the Door Men right in front of the Club. The Guy had earlier been refused entry despite being dressed OK. The Victim didnt fight back was thrown to the Ground and was tough and simply got up and walked away. He was pushed off the gutter but was tough as nails and didnt retaliate. Doormen are untidy and rude.

I was waiting in line Last Friday night and saw a Guy get refused entry because the Doormen thought he was not dressed well. He was wearing all branded gear and seemed fine but took offence as the doormen were dressed like cleaners. He walked away but was king hit by a Doorman despite not fighting back. I left the area but man this guy was so tough he just got up and walked away screaming at the meatheads they call bouncers at the BackRoom NightClub. I saw the same victim at another club later enjoying himself. Give this place a miss.
