The Axis of Awesome - Live and Kicking at the Spiegeltent
This crazy bunch of funsters hits the Spiegeltent stage running. Their show Viva La Vida Loca Las Vegas opens with a mash up of songs thrown together purely on the strength of their (slightly) similar titles. And that's as good a reason as any for the Axis of Awesome and their legion of fans.
It's all about mish mash; three blokes – 1 tall, 1 medium height, 1 itty bitty - ranging in vocal, musical and comedic talent from brilliant to average. But somehow it works. A fledgling Antipodean Flight of the Conchords if you will (with the addition of miniature mascot in the tiny but musically imposing Benny Davis).
Over the course of 60 minutes, the Axis of Awesome shine a hilarious light on boy bands, clichéd love songs, Benny Davis, man dancing, superheroes and a couple of foolhardy blokes sitting in the front row. When will they ever learn?
Since 2006, the Axis of Awesome has been performing their unique brand of musical comedy in all corners of the globe from Australia to the UK to…to…to…Sweden! Their latest online release Drunk at Christmas is rocketing up the You Tube charts along with the thought-provoking Four Chord Song and the brilliant Rage of Thrones with its memorable opening stanza: You've got a new favourite show? It's on HBO? Well, I read the f***ing books! I waited 6 years for A Dance with Dragons and now you jump on the f***ing bandwagon.
If you've never seen them before, don't miss the chance to experience the Axis of Awesome in living colour at the Spiegeltent this Comedy Festival. If you have seen them before, take the advice of their publicity machine and see them again: they are all slightly older.
And like a fine Parmigiano-Reggiano, they are getting better with age. Catch them before they go off.
