A great gift for a loved one, a must for a magical evening and essential for devotees of classical dance, the Melbourne 2014 Season is now on sale.

14 - 24 March

Manon (1974) tells the classic tale of a young woman from out of town seduced by the glamour and wealth of the big city life.

Initially destined for the convent, Manon derails her intended future by running away to the city with Des Rieux, a young student who has become enthralled by her.

Her chosen fate follows the path of a tumultuous downfall and eventual redemption.

With new orchestration by veteran Manon conductor Martin Yates, this full-length story ballet is a visually luxurious tale set in demi-monde Paris.

6 - 14 June

Get three ballets for the price of one with this fantastic mixed bill performance. The Australian premiere of Chroma sees old meet new in an exciting contemporary ballet by Royal Ballet choreographer Wayne McGregor.

Following on is Petite Mort and Sechs Tšnze and a new work by the Australian Ballet's resident choreographer, Stephen Baynes.

20 - 28 June

New York style and Parisian chic in a dazzling double bill", this classical 1940s ballet is every little girl's dream, complete with tutus and Tchaikovsky. A great one to take the whole family to.

La Bayadere
28 August - 6 September

It's Thor meets Bollywood in this full-length story ballet. The passionate love between a temple dancer and warrior is thwarted by the Rajah's jealous daughter who murders the temple dancer. By the conclusion of this colourful tale, justice has been done and the lovers meet once again in the afterlife.

Peter Wright's The Nutcracker
12 - 25 September

Bringing the Melbourne ballet season to a close, surely this timeless classic needs no introduction. Set to Tchaikovsky's magical score, lose yourself in the Christmas story of young ballet student, Clara on her journey through fantastical lands with the nutcracker.
