Event:
Watch artist Antoinette Starkiewicz at work at Labassa
There can't be a more stunning backdrop than an elaborate 19th Century mansion for portrait work. On its June Open Day, Labassa mansion will host artist Antoinette Starkiewicz in the appropriately named 'drawing room', where she will be producing art while you watch.

"'A drawing room is a room in a house where visitors may be entertained'...and, drawing people has been, and is, a central theme of my work. I also seized on the literal meaning of 'drawing', especially as it also refers to the most beautifully lit room in the remarkable mansion, Labassa. I once lived here, as a young art student, except it was in what is now the kitchen...!" says Antoinette.

Come along and meet the artist and take a tour of this stunning mansion from yesteryear and learn about its amazing journey - from the home of Judge Richard Billing in 1862 to hub of Bohemian culture in the 1960s and 70s and finally its modern day use as a preserved property of the National Trust. It is beloved as a film set with many television shows and movies and where you can enjoy it on the third Sunday of almost every month.

The tea rooms sell some of the best scones in Melbourne - don't just take my word for it, try them! The next Labassa Open Day is Sunday the 16th of June 2019.
