Our World is Here....and It is Art - an art exhibition by the Burrinja Arties will be held at the Jarmbi Gallery at Burrinja - 351 Glenfern Road, Upwey. The exhibition runs from 28th October to 30th November 2014. The affordable artworks are for sale and the proceeds go directly to the artists who use it to buy art supplies so they can continue to create outside of the art group. Do come along and support this wonderful community art exhibition.

The Arties belong to a Planned Activity Group which is run by Lynette Forrest who is a Creative Arts Therapist, and she does this with her band of amazing volunteers. There will also be art created by Lynette's other clients from Emerald Glades, EACH, Abound program and Sherbrooke Private Nursing Home. Other exhibitors include Sherbrooke Cottage Planned Activity Group and Global Art for Peace Partners from the USA.
Lynette runs the the art programme on a Friday morning in school terms and the participants range from their 20s to 70s and they have all experienced or continue to live in challenging circumstances. The exhibition gives the Arties a chance to express themselves and the majority of the artwork has been created from up-cycled materials. The group is funded by Home and Community Care who support people living in supported residential services. Burrinja has also been a living example of their motto 'building community through arts' by supporting this ten year program.
The Arties are always looking for mentors to join the group on Friday mornings from 10am till 12 noon. If you have not already signed on as a mentor for this exhibition, they would love to see you there for a minimum of 3 visits before the exhibition begins. This opportunity will mean that you get partnered with an Artie and you will be able to share your gift of creativity with an individual. You are also invited to exhibit your own work in this exhibition. At this point in time even though it's a bit late to get the 3 visits in, give Lynette a call anyway if you have a passion for helping others and see what conspires. They still may be short of mentors. Contact Lynette Forrest through Burrinja on 9754 8723. She has spent 8 years with the Arties as their Creative Arts Therapist. They are her passion and she and her team of dedicated volunteers and mentors have made a difference in the lives of every Artie.
