For the first time, the Friends of the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne are presenting their 15th biennial '' exhibition online.Regarded as one of Australia's leading botanical art exhibitions, this year's virtual exhibition showcases 154 botanically accurate artworks by 74 talented Australian and international artists.
This sublime collection of some of the very best botanical illustration from around the world is represented by the 'hero image' of an Agapanthus Seed Head by Vicki Philipson, a long-term student of the Friends Botanical Art Program. Although Friends of the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne were unable to present the iconic exhibition in Domain House due to COVID-19 restrictions, the exhibition is still being delivered at their highly professional standard in an online framework; all artworks went through a meticulous selection process where the artist merit and scientific accuracy each artwork was assessed and the prestigious Celia Rosser Award for Excellence was awarded as usual. You can view the artwork online now at tabi.rbgfriendsmelbourne.org .In addition to the interactive Online Gallery , you can view detailed Artist Profiles and enjoy Artists' Artwork in Progress , a behind the scenes look at how some of the works were brought to life. All artworks are available for sale and all profits from the exhibition assist the Friends to support the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne. A benefit of this year's virtual presentation of the exhibition is the extended duration (it is accessible online until 31 December) and you have the chance to shop online. This is a great opportunity to add to your art collection or purchase unique Christmas gifts for friends and family. You can also order the 2021 Botanical Illustration Calendar , which is now available for delivery.
