The Art of Bonsai – Principles and Practices

Robert Hatcher, a longstanding member of the South Australian Bonsai community and frequent judge at Bonsai competitions, will be conducting a hands-on Masterclass on the best horticultural practices to construct, grow and care for your own bonsai on Sunday 25 March 2018 from 10am – 3pm at Mount Lofty Botanic Garden Nursery. If you are not able to make it to this class, a second class will be held on Sunday 14 October 2018 at the same time and location.

Bonsai is the growing of a tree or plant in a shallow dish. This course covers the history about bonsai, selection of the plant, growing it, maintaining it and how to keep it pest and disease free. Participants will need to wear closed shoes and gloves as the session will involve practical activities. At the end of the class, you get to take home the bonsai that you have planted and built-in class.

Below is the timeline of the masterclass:

09.45am – Registration and coffee

10.00am – Welcome, Masterclass outline

12.30pm – Lunch (provided)
