The Art House at Wyong offers more than performance – it also has a range of Creative Workshops that focus on a range of theatrical aspects. There are two running on the 23rd of March that look at directing with Kate Gaul.

The first workshop is Creative Workshop: Introduction to Directing with Kate Gaul . Participants can join Kate for a crash course in the fundamentals of theatre direction.
During this four-hour course- with a tea break, aimed at participants aged sixteen and over, Kate will cover:

• What a Director does - From the moment you choose your play to the time the audience arrives the director’s journey is unique and often unknown. This session is the chance to increase your confidence and ability to direct coherently. Thankfully every Director is different but no matter what the vision, voice, or interpretation of a director there are skills that can be sharpened, and important questions explored.
• Choosing a show
• Conceptualising your production
• Meeting and working with other creatives
• Auditioning and casting

The above is taken directly from the Art House website.

Those taking part are encouraged to bring ideas for productions they are planning, or any that they would like to direct, as they will get the chance to ask questions and come up with practical ideas.
Those who can attend are those who want to learn about the fundamentals of directing, as long as they are over sixteen. The workshop is capped at 15 participants, and morning tea will be provided. Tickets for this workshop will be $30.00. The workshop will begin at 9am.

Following on from the morning session, there is a Masterclass – In-Depth Directing with Kate. This is a more in-depth workshop for participants aged 18 and over, and will be held at 2pm on the 23rd of March, also for $30.00 with a break and complimentary tea.

Whilst the earlier course is for people getting started, this masterclass is for those with directing for theatre, so they get to go on a deep dive into theatrical direction during this masterclass and have the chance to share knowledge and expertise. As with the other workshop, participants are encouraged to bring any ideas they have for productions they want to direct to get practical ideas, and Kate will also talk through some of the productions that the participants have directed from beginning to end and share some of the problems encountered and how these problems can be overcome, or how participants can use the problems to their advantage.

This workshop is also capped at fifteen participants and runs for four hours.
