Adapted from the award-winning picture book by Shaun Tan, this unique performance of The Arrival is playing at the Dolphin Theatre at the University of Western Australia until July 15 and is touring nationally from August 2017.

A clever of mixture of skilful puppetry, fine acting, haunting music, digital animation and Tan's creative illustrations takes the audience on a 50 minute journey to a whole new world.

The story starts as Aki leaves behind his wife and daughter to create a new life in a foreign land. His initial loneliness and isolation is solemnly captured by the haunting background music. The play goes on to explore themes of immigration, difference, acceptance and freedom.

The absence of words in the play is reflective of the picture book, making it an emotionally moving performance that will touch the heart of anyone who has had to bid farewell to a loved one.

The play goes for 50 minutes and there is a 10 minute question and answer at the end. It is suitable for ages 5 and above and is a play that will captivate the interest of the whole family.
