Not having read the book series by Rick Yancey, I was not sure what to expect. I had seen the trailer and thought that perhaps the movie would be interesting. All I can say now is that I hope the books are better than the movie.

The film stars Chloƫ Grace Moretz, Nick Robinson, Ron Livingston, Maggie Siff, Alex Roe, Maria Bello, Maika Monroe, and Liev Schreiber and follows the story of Cassie after four waves of attack from an alien race. She is facing the 5th wave and the film follows her travels as she tries to find her brother.

The action and cinematography are enjoyable, however the romantic moments overshadow the real story. A large percentage of the theatre erupted into laughter at the obvious ogling of one of the male leads and inappropriately placed romantic moments. Teenage girls who have read the books will probably enjoy the movie, especially the body shot, but unfortunately I felt that the film's action and plot while entertaining, were rendered ineffective through a series of comic romantic interactions which were mostly unbelievable. I mean, who really has time for a smooch when the building you are in is about to be blown up!

The actors did the best with what they had and I hope that the book series makes for better entertainment than the movie did. I particularly found the chiildren's army training disturbing and I won't be sending my own children along to see this film. It has been rated "M".
