THC Rooftop Bar Chiang Mai

Opposite Thae Pae gate the Rooftop bar is a bit of a Chiang Mai institution having been here for years. (It was open 6 years ago on my previous visit and doesn't seem to have been cleaned since..)

It's up several flights of stairs in an old building. The last flight is a metal stairway that makes you feel like you are going to fall - either going up or down. This, coupled with the dank smell that greets you on entering the building isn't really the best of starts.

The bar is small and set away from the seating area, which is all on the floor among low tables and straw mats. Normally I'm totally down with this sort of set up and the place has some sort of faded charm to it, the Spirit Houses in the corner being a nice touch.



There is a great view from the balcony over the Gate and the square in front of it, and the drinks offers aren't bad, so there are positives to the place but it isn't somewhere you'd bring someone on a date.

Last time I was there was with a bunch of Zombies doing a bar crawl for Halloween. It was the perfect place to do our make up because you couldn't make the place more dirty.
