As its name suggests, along Ridley Grove at Woodville Gardens specialises in offering New Zealand dishes, along with a few Australian takeaway staples. Many of their dishes can be ordered as part of combo packs.

One of their unique offerings is the Hangi, a traditional Maori method of cooking in a pit oven known as an umu. The cooking at is done over wood chips to replicate the smoky flavour. The pork, chicken and lamb were tender and the potato, pumpkin, kumara and cabbage still had a nice bite to them. Some stuffing mix completed the dish. It may not look like it when you purchase the dish but the portion size is sufficient for sharing among a few people.

Fry Bread is the name given to a type of bread in which the final stage of the cooking involves it being fried rather than baked. The bread was fried to golden brown and had a fluffy texture. There was a hint of a flavour similar to beer. Aside from eating the bread with their savoury dishes, golden syrup or jam can be ordered as accompaniments.

Paua is the New Zealand name for abalone, which was cut up finely for their Paua Fritters. We liked that it was not too chewy and the flavour reminded us of oysters. Also enjoyable was their Seafood Fritters which consisted of a mixture of calamari, mussels and prawns. The prawns were left in relatively large chunks to provide some extra texture to the fritters.

Fish and Chips at also had a bit of a New Zealand flair, with customers being able to pick from New Zealand Hoki, Dory and Flake in addition to Hake. The flesh of the fish could easily be flaked apart with a fork and was contrasted nicely by the crisp batter coating. The chips that came with the fish were crispy, with the right amount of seasoning. We opted for the Fish Pack which included a small salad of your choice.

Though we found our Kumara Chips to be a bit soggy they still had a delectable slightly sweet taste. A sprinkling of salt lifted their flavour but not so much that the saltiness overwhelmed them.

Also available at the shop were various New Zealand snacks and souvenirs. Off-street parking is available at the back of the place.
