In the words of Franki Valli '
Oh What a Night!'
On Saturday night
That Gold Street Sound threw an epic launch party for its debut album 'A Trick of the Light' at
Geddes Lane Ballroom to a ravenous crowd left wanting more!
After six years of playing together, the funk soul party band put on an epic two hour show party with all the trimmings. Supported by local outfits
Karate Boogaloo and the all-dancing all-singing female 60's troupe
The Rebelles , the ballroom was packed with punters wanting more dance, more gold, more balloons, more funk and soul!
Featuring sultry vocal powerhouse and keyboardist Shaanika Marguccio with her sister Saskia Marguccio on backing vocals and cello, Jimbo Griffiths on guitar, with a killer horns and percussion section - Steve 'Foss' Forss, Phil Naidoo, Lara Wasilewski, Ned Harding, Dale Dunbar and Kieran Washburn in gold hightop sneakers to boot,
That Gold Street Sound were a dynamic force on stage.
There was a live 'drum off' between Shaanika and Saskia, with the horn section branching out on to the catwalk, into the audience, finishing with a live dance party on stage for all and sundry. The stage was surrounded by large gold balloons filled with streamers popped by Shaanika in burlesque-circus style with her baton to the delight of the crowd.
After receiving Winner of the Best Live Act on the New Music Stage at the 2016
St Kilda Festival ,
That Gold Street Sound have gone from strength to strength, and 'A Trick of Light' is no exception with ten solid tracks which are both magnificent live, and a pleasure on vinyl.
Check out the title signature track 'A Trick of Light' filmed on Fitzroy Street Brunswick
here - a beautiful ode to the early morning Sunday walk of shame, with a loved-up glow.
But that's not all - there are two versions of 'The Struggle' on this album - one funked up and one acoustic which shows the versatility of this band. Also the first single 'Only Lonely' launched last year at Melbourne's iconic
Cherry Bar in ACDC Lane is still a standout classic track amongst eight other stunners including 'Rain'which you can view
here .
So folks, get busy and buy this album and some merch, because
That Gold Street Sound is on a trajectory, and like many others who start small and humble in the indie music scene will soon be picked up for bigger and greater things. So don't delay put your plastic to work and head to
That Gold Street Sound's bandcamp page and chose from limited edition vinyl, CD, download, t-shirts, gift packs and the mega-bundle. Show you care and support live and local soul funk music in Melbourne.
Of course, if you missed out on the album launch at Geddes Lane Ballroom, grab a cheap flight to Sydney this weekend and see
That Gold Street Sound at
The Factory Theatre , this Saturday night 23 February.
