In 2008, a 19 year old university student, Daniel Flynn, came across an alarming statistic about the world water crisis – nearly 900 million people did not have access to safe water. Shocking as this was, more confronting for Dan were the personal stories. Instead of going to school, children had to spend hours, sometimes days, collecting water that was often of dubious quality. In fact, in 2009 4,500 children died from waterborne diseases every day.

At that time, it cost between $5 and $150 to give someone the gift of access to safe water. In contrast, in Australia, a country with safe tap water, consumers spent $600 million a year on bottled water. Worldwide $50 billion was spent on bottled water and today this figure has doubled to $100 billion.

Dan was so disturbed by these statistics that he decided to do something about. He realised that people were willing to pay for the convenience of bottled water so he decided to launch a brand of bottled water and use the money raised to help solve the world's water crisis. He shared the idea with his girlfriend (now wife), Justine, and his best friend Jarryd and together they founded .

With no business experience and no money the journey was tough, but the idea was so good that, against all odds, succeeded. Since then the company has branched into food and body care products to support food and sanitation projects in developing countries, and its innovative marketing campaigns have shaken up these competitive industries. Today, products can be found in most supermarkets, 7-11 stores and many independent retailers … and if they are not in your local shops, ask for them to be stocked.

To keep consumers in the loop about what impact their purchases are having, each product has a tracker ID number. Simply enter this number into a box on the website www.thankyou.co to see where your money has been invested. My purchase of a box of museli bars helped to fund programs in Kenya, Cambodia and Australia – programs which have so far helped over 33,000 people.

The company is firmly founded on the principle of giving 100% of profits to life changing projects. This left them with the dilemma of how to get money to scale up the business. Dan's answer was to write a book called Chapter 1, which outlines 's story from 2008 to 2016. Chapter 1 can be bought online or from many outlets, including airports.

There several points of difference between Chapter 1 and conventional books. Chapter 1 is:
printed as a landscape book not portrait.
marketed with no set price, consumers pay what they want for it.
really just that, the first chapter of what is hopefully a much bigger story.

Chapter 1 details the history of the company thus far, but it also challenges the reader to find a way to use their skills and resources to make an impact in the world, and make their dreams and ideas a reality.

Daniel Flynn and his team at are remarkable individuals. Their next plans are to launch baby products and introduce to New Zealand. After that, who knows … but I'm sure the sky's the limit for this dedicated team working their butts off for a cause they dearly believe in.

is a social enterprise, a movement of people for people. Every year we buy billions of dollars of consumer products which line the pockets of big multinational corporations. gives consumers an opportunity to choose to support humanitarian projects. Simply by switching to products instead of our usual bottled water, museli bars, hand wash, etc. we can make a difference in the world and support those less fortunate than ourselves.

For this opportunity, , I thank you.
