Thanh Long Vietnamese Roll Fresh Lunch Express on Hanson Road has been written about many times yet somehow remains a local secret. We've known about this place for over a decade and Thanh Long (one of the original Vietnamese meat roll joints in Adelaide) has steadfastly maintained its reputation for tasty food and ridiculously quick service. It's no wonder it's so popular with workers for early snack and lunch. Most of them are in and out, but there is a basic casual eating area inside that's perfect for a quick bite.
If you love cheap and authentic eats, then you'll love Thanh Long. Some rolls are under five dollars and they're delicious! The reasonable prices are one of the main reasons we keep heading there for lunch whenever we're in the area.
The menu is focused on quick service and easily handled food. The now ubiquitous meat roll, chicken, BBQ, and roast pork rolls are highly recommended with a wide selection of meat, salad and dressing options. The bread rolls are crunchy without being jagged and hard, yet soft and pliable enough to make it easy to hold on to the fillings. All the usual fillings are available but it's the pate at Thanh Long that is truly amazing and sets them apart. You can have hot chilli (or really hot chilli) added if you like that kind of torture with your lunch. Tip: watch and be impressed by how super fast they put the rolls together with clinical precision.
The sticky rice dishes are served in a simple plastic container but are full of flavour and easy to handle on the go. They consist of the meats mentioned earlier with rice and spring onion, a drizzle of Vietnamese sauce, and chilli. Again, the rice dishes are ridiculously cheap and tasty.
Charcoal Pork Sticky Rice and Stuffed Chicken Wing - Thanh Long
The stuffed chicken wings are delicious bites of meaty spring roll mix with vegetables and vermicelli all stuffed inside the skin of a chicken wing. Order them hot or cold but be careful on the first bite when hot as they may literally burst with juiciness. They're a must try.
Coffee (and Vietnamese iced coffee) is available along with your usual drinks fridge of waters, juices and soft drinks.
If you like Vietnamese meat rolls, then try Thanh Long. They've still got the magic touch and you won't be disappointed. It's on Hanson road down near Grand Junction Road and opens from 4am - 2pm Mon-Sat, and 5am - 2pm Sunday.
