Thai Pothong might actually be the craziest and coolest restaurant in the galaxy. For reals. And as soon as you enter this place, you may as well have entered another time-space continuum. It's full of hundreds of Buddha heads, all for sale, as well as a collection of elegant Buddha hands, strange and wonderful Asian trinkets and toys, and gigantic galactic robots that buzz bright blue with electricity.
The fact the food is absolutely sensational is actually kind of bewildering. I mean, you'd figure a place so out-of-this-world with an enormous focus on the kitsch and kooky just wouldn't have such a focus on serving amazing food. But they really, really do.
You'll need to spend a bit of time in the gift shop before you even sit down to eat, so factor in a little lead time here. No doubt you'll want to also photograph yourself and your mates making serene Buddha faces while posing in a sea of, well, Buddha faces. And you'll need some time to pull out your best robot dance moves next to the giant Transformer-looking guys standing in the window. It's all part of the experience.
Food is priced from budget to medium with entrees averaging about $13, seafood dishes averaging about $24, and curries, stir-fries and Thai salads averaging about $20. Share a few dishes with your mates. They also have a good range of Thai cocktails such as the Phuket Fantasy and Phi Phi Paradise.
