Aromatic Thai food at a reasonable price? Count me in
I've driven past this restaurant almost every day for the last year, and I haven't given it a moment's glance. Sure, there's a big sign outside advertising it, and sure, it's on the corner of two busy roads in Strathpine. But due to the fact that the Thai Kasinee Restaurant is located on Gympie Road, Strathpine, amongst a host of other restaurants, takeaways, DVD stores and businesses, I wrote this restaurant off as being main stream and "just another takeaway".
Wow, was I wrong! We ended up going here at the request of family who were having dinner with us. We had last month been to the restaurant next door and noticed that the Thai Kasinee Restaurant is very busy. Our interest was piqued!
Strathpine is a large business hub for the Northside, but when twilight comes the normally busy suburb falls asleep. Nobody but the DVD store and local Hungry Jacks see any action. So to see the 3 restaurants on this little corner of Gympie Road all filled with seated patrons and all with a line outside of people waiting for takeaway, well, we knew we had found something special. We'd already tried the Italian Restaurant in this little corner of Gympie Road and new it was great, now it was time to discover why Thai Kasinee was so busy! (next we'll try the final restaurant in this little triangle - the Indian Restaurant)
I would recommend booking a table at Thai Kasinee before you come here, they seem to get large groups of 6 to 10 guests so you might be waiting a while if you don't book ahead.
We sat down to dinner as 4 adults, a child and a baby. The staff at Thai Kasinee could not have been more accommodating. They were happy to bring the child's main meal out with our entree's and did not mind the presence of a baby.
We ordered a variety of entrees - the steamed dim sims, fish cakes and mixed entree plate (a sample of a few different entrees). Every entree we tried was delicious and they arrived in good time. We waited approximately 15 minutes for our entrees.
For mains we ordered the Green Curry, Massaman Curry, Chicken Pad Khing and Pad Kra Pao. The mains came in a timely manner and nobody had any cause for complaint! They were very large servings and full of flavour. My Massaman Curry was to die for! The wait staff were very attentive throughout our meal, although not in a way that was intrusive and happily supplied extra rice as needed.
To top off our meal, although none of us had any room left, our eyes were bigger than our stomachs and we all had deep fried ice cream. This was, as you can imagine, very tasty and ensured that we walked out of the Thai Kasinee Restaurant ridiculously full but very happy.
For anyone looking for a good Thai Restaurant on the northside, I would definitely recommend this place. I have to admit that once again I've been taught a good lesson - don't judge a book by its cover. Although this Restaurant is attractive on the inside and has a lovely atmosphere, just the location of it had caused me to discount it. Lesson learned! I will definitely be coming back here!
Thai Kasinee Restaurant is open Tuesday to Friday for lunch, and Tuesday to Sunday for dinner. See their website for more information dine in and takeaway menus.
